Each of our honorees is well-known, admired and respected, not just among MACDL members, but by everyone in the Massachusetts criminal defense bar.

We are pleased to present the Balliro Award to Bill Leahy, Chief Counsel of the Committee for Public Counsel Services in recognition of his commitment and dedication to the zealous representation of those accused of crime.   As Chief Counsel, Bill has firmly established CPCS as the finest indigent defense system in the country.  His retirement on July 28 of this year gives us the opportunity to recognize his remarkable achievements.

A past recipient of the Balliro Award, Charlie Clifford has been a driving force in MACDL since its earliest days. He has served with distinction on the MACDL board of directors where he has been an ardent promoter of our organization and an enthusiastic, dedicated recruiter of new members.  Join us in celebrating his contribution to MACDL as Charlie retires from the board.
