Re: Interim Guidelines – Protection of Personal Identifying Data

The Supreme Judicial Court Standing Advisory Committee on the Rules of Civil and Appellate Procedure’s “Subcommittee on Personal Identifying Data” invites comments on the proposed “Interim Guidelines for the Protection of Personal Identifying Data in Publicly Accessible Court Documents.”

The proposed Interim Guidelines are intended to prevent the unnecessary inclusion of certain personal identifying data elements in publicly-accessible documents filed with or issued by the courts, in order to minimize the opportunity to use such documents for identity theft or other improper purposes.

The Subcommittee welcomes all comments pertaining to the issues raised by this proposal and will make recommendations to the Standing Advisory Committee on the Rules of Civil and Appellate Procedure after reviewing the comments submitted.

Comments should be submitted by September 19, 2008, and directed to the Subcommittee on Personal Identifying Data,c/o Peter Sacks, Assistant Attorney General, One Ashburton Place, 20th Floor, Boston MA 02108.

Comments in electronic form are strongly encouraged, by red-lining the draft Interim Guidelines or otherwise, and should be sent to peter.sacks@state.ma.us.
