IN THIS FREE WEBINAR EVENT criminal defense attorney and licensed certified social worker, Lisa Newman-Polk, who worked as mental health clinician in the Department of Corrections (DOC) from 2013 to 2014, will update us on the current state of affairs inside DOC facilities as the number of positive cases, hospitalizations, and prisoner deaths from the COVID pandemic continue to rise. The restrictions put in place by the DOC have done little to curb the spread of the virus, but the oppressive conditions of confinement continue to take their toll on our clients’ psychological well being, with many prisoners locked in their cells for 23 hours a day and some who have not been outdoors in months. Lisa will provide an overview of the current challenges and share ideas on how we as defense attorneys can help our clients during this ongoing humanitarian crisis in our prisons.
