Todd & Weld, LLP, One Federal Street, Boston

Dear MACDL Members,

Please join us for MACDL’s next informal brown bag lunch where we will have a discussion with legal and medical experts who will help us understand the different treatments for opioid use disorder, and how we can help our clients get treatment in jail. Our presents will be:

Dr. Henrietta Robin Barnes is a retired primary care physician and former Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School. For the last 30 years, Dr. Barnes has cared for addicted patients in her primary care practice. Her book, Hijacked Brains: The Experience and Science of Chronic Addiction (Dartmouth Press, 2015), interweaves her patients’ stories with recent neurobiological findings in the science of addiction.

Dr. Martha Karchere is a family medicine doctor certified in suboxone treatment who treated opiate addicts as part of her family practice for many years.

Daniel McFadden of the ACLU of Massachusetts will talk about the recent federal preliminary injunction entered in Pesce v. Coppinger, and how the 8th Amendment and Americans with Disabilities Act require that incarcerated people have access to medication-assisted treatment for opioid use disorder.

Bring your lunch and your questions, comments and stories! For building security, please RSVP by clicking the button below.
